COVID-19 Postpones 2020 Summerfest
Due to COVID 19, The Maine Vintage Race Car Association has announced a postponement of the annual 'Summerfest' scheduled for August 2nd at Wiscasset Speedway. The decision, voted by officers and board of directors leaves the club without their largest one day fundraising event for the year.
MVRCA, who's mission is to honor and preserve the history of racing in Maine, traditionally held the event on the first Sunday of August. In addition to fundraising, the event serves as the largest membership drive of the year.
MVRCA President Andy Austin: "We held out as long as we could, and wanted to believe there would be a safe way to hold Summerfest. However, after researching many alternatives, the club made this a unanimous decision. Like many museums, our mobile unit has closed. The popular ride-along program would be next to impossible, and our annual cookout would have to be overhauled. This is a moment in time, and the more we work together, the sooner we can emerge successfully."
Maine Vintage Race Car Association is already getting a leg up on 2021. In cooperation with Wiscasset Speedway, new Summerfest date has been scheduled for August 1st, 2021. In addition, the Maine Motorsports Hall of Fame Ceremony will combine 2020 and 2021 classes into one ceremony April 18th, 2021.
